Choy Gar Kung Fu, or Choy Family Kung Fu, is one of the five family systems famous in Southern China. It was created by Choy
Gau Yi and was further developed by his students. It was towards the end of the Ming Dynasty, around 1700-1800, that Choy Gar
Kung Fu became the system that it is today.
Choy Gar Kung Fu practices on low stance and swift footwork, like that of a rat. The body and arms are meant to resemble the quick
attacking movements of the snake. Choy Gar Kung Fu practitioners develop their inner strength with continuous practice using low
stances. This is the basic foundation for creating effective movements, abilities, and actions of the body.
Practitioners of Choy Gar Kung Fu respect the traditions and morals their art. To them training in Choy Gar is more or less an education
towards a better character and morals in their daily life.
