“Hard as iron, soft as thread.”
Hung Gar, or Hung Ga, is one of the most popular styles of Kung Fu practiced in the world today. Hung Hei Goon created Hung Gar in
the 1700s by combining the Black Tiger style he learned from the Shaolin Temple and his wife’s White Crane system. Later, various
masters such as Wong Fei Hung and Wong Kei Ying, added the five elements fists and five animals for a more advance and internal
approach in training.
The movements of Hung Gar are simple, feasible, and practical in self-defense. Blocks and counters have the striking power of a
sledgehammer. Hung Gar is known for its powerful and solid immovable stance.
Stance training is considered to be an extremely important part of this style of Kung Fu. Weapons training are also included in the
training of Hung Gar practitioner. Precision, accuracy, and dedication combined with long hours of disciplined training is needed to
master this art.
Hung Gar is known as “The Southern Fist” due to its powerful iron hand like strikes and blocks. It is an all-around system, from close
combat to long-range movements, known for its powerful no-nonsense fighting and tremendous health benefits. Hung Gar requirements
stress honesty, directness, iron will power, and righteousness.
