“A good fighter must sense, rather than perceive his chance to strike.”
Jeet Kune Do, or the Way of the Intercepting Fist, was developed by Bruce Lee based on his wide study and research of different styles
of Martial Arts. Bruce Lee took the best technique of every system and strips it down to the techniques that works and practical. His
intention was to create an effective fighting art based on a set of principles and concepts.
Although a lot of people call Jeet Kune Do a style of Kung Fu, Bruce Lee himself did not call it a style. Instead he called it an art form,
a philosophy, and a concept. He believes that if any style teaches you a method of fighting, then you fight according to the limit of that
method.
The art of Jeet Kune Do is simply to simplify. It favors formlessness so that it can assume all forms and it can fit with all the styles. It is
simple, direct, and free.
A Jeet Kune Do practitioner’s action is as fast as a shadow adapting to a moving object. The practitioner is always alert to meet the
interchangeability of his opponent. A true Jeet Kune Do expert always keeps his mind in the state of emptiness so that his freedom in
action will never be obstructed.
