“One must toughen up without losing one’s tenderness.”
Jow Ga, also known as Chow Gar, is a well-established Chinese Kung Fu system that is widely practiced all over the world. The founder
of this style is Jow Lung. He combined the skills and practical techniques of Hung Gar and Choy Gar Kung Fu.
Jow Ga’s unique style of fighting incorporates the muscular and might movements of Hung Gar and the swift footwork of Choy Gar. By
combining the two styles, he develops a fighting system that emphasizes simultaneous attack and defenses. Because of its unique mixture
of styles, Jow Ga is labeled as having the head of Hung, the tail of Choy, and the patterns of the Tiger and Leopard, or simply “Hung
Tao Choy Mei”.
Training in Jow Ga includes strong, low stances, a distinct dexterity in footwork, ground, and aerial attacks. It also has a wide range of
kicking techniques, punches, blocks, joint locking, and throws. Jow Ga is also renowned for its animal forms such as Tiger, Crane,
Leopard, Dragon, and Phoenix.
The daily practice of Jow Ga improves one’s health and release of physical and mental stress. A feeling of self-confidence and self-worth
is gained as students progress. It also provides students with the skills and confidence necessary for successful self-defense.
