“Be near when they think you are far, be far when they think you are near.”
My Jhong is a style of Kung Fu whose fighting techniques are based on deception and mobility. Its movements are similar to Chang
Chuan or Long Fist but differ in the approach of combat strategies. Its deception movements are reflected in the versatile use of the
hands and feet, which are characterized by markedly fleeting movements coupled with nimble jumps and shrewd attacks.
Movements in My Jhong require that the hands, eyes, body, and feet move in one coordinated motion of swiftness and agility. My
Jhong training has the effect of externally conditioning the tendons, bones, and muscles and internally strengthening the breath of
chi. Agility, flexibility, and strength are acquired through vigorous external training in basic techniques and combinations.
Iron palm training is also included to condition the hands. Internal training is done through the practice of the empty-hand forms
and weapon forms. My Jhong have more than sixty forms that includes empty-hand, weapons forms, and two-man sparring sets.
Although forms practice is the main tool to sharpen a My Jhong practitioner’s techniques, sparring is also practice to sharpen one’s
instinct and reaction time. Today My Jhong is dominantly practiced in the North provinces of China. It is a rare and effective style
of Kung Fu outside the North of China.
