Southern Praying Mantis is a simpler style of Kung Fu than its northern counterpart. It’s a style of Kung Fu designed to inflict maximum damage on an opponent. Discipline, patience, and self-determination are required to learn this style of Kung Fu.

Southern Praying Mantis is comprised of a very high level of “borrowing energy” for both offensive and defensive aspects of training and fighting. It involves internal and external qigong as well. Practitioners of this style are skilled in dim mak, pressure point attacks, and healing arts. There are four Southern Praying Mantis style.

Southern Praying Mantis Styles

Praying Mantis Kid Chow Gar
Chow Gar was developed in the south region of China by Chow Lung. It is famous for is inch power techniques similar of Wing Chun’s. A Chow Gar practitioner achieves extraordinary inch force power by practicing relentlessly on special Chow Gar training methods. Chow Gar’s movements are similar to the Southern Kung Fu style Hung Gar.

Palm Lower Blocks Chu Gar
Chu Gar is a complete system of Kung Fu that originated in Kwantung Province. According to its history, it was the revolutionary fighters who were trying to overthrow the Ming Dynasty and restore the Ching Dynasty that devised this style of Kung Fu. It has a complete range of training that includes empty-hand forms, weapon forms, internal training, and wooden dummy training.

Iron Ox
Iron Ox is a style of Southern Praying Mantis that toughens the practitioner’s anatomical weapons, such as fists and forearms, in a variety of ways. An Iron Ox practitioner trains by hitting a sandbag or hard objects numerous times to conditions the muscles and bones. Focus on stance, body posture, circular footwork, and internal training are all included in the complete development of an Iron Ox practitioner.

Block & Punch Bamboo Forest Temple
The Bamboo Forest Temple style of Southern Praying Mantis is one of the most secretive styles of Kung Fu ever devised. It was created by the Shaolin Monk Red Eyebrow. Training includes hardening the body like iron similar to the training of Iron Ox. A master of Bamboo Forest Temple could take several hits in the body without getting injured or hurt.
