“A one sided Martial Artist is a blind Martial Artist.”
Wushu, also known as Contemporary Wushu, is a dynamic, fast-paced, and aesthetically pleasing art form and competition sport with
a foundation in the traditional Chinese Kung Fu. It was created in the early 1950s. Wushu, translates as Martial Technique, is divided
into two groups, Internal and External Wushu.
Internal Wushu is generally categorized by their limit use of muscle strength and increased use of internal strength. External Wushu in
contrast to Internal Wushu uses external muscle strength as well as physical. These are more common styles of Wushu.
Wushu competition includes form competition and full-contact fighting. International Compulsory routines include Chang Quan,
Nan Quan, Broadsword, Straight Sword, Staff, Spear, Taiji Quan, Taiji Sword, and Nan Dao. The Wushu practitioner is judged by the
height of the jump, the speed of the technique, the complexity of the moves, physical strength, visual expression and the beauty of the
performance.
The practice of Wushu provides an excellent release of stress through self-discipline in breathing and meditation. The development of
physical, mental, and spiritual health are some of the great rewards in practicing Wushu. Today this beautiful and awe-inspiring sport
continues to spread throughout the World.
